Japanese Sweet Cocktails Available from Wednesday, October 16, 2024

~The concept is "learn from the past for the new." They also offer cocktails that combine Japanese sweets from Kyogashidokoro Kogetsu~

Sales start on Wednesday, October 16, 2024. Campaign will be held at the same time.

We have teamed up with Hamada Shuzo Co., Ltd. in Kagoshima Prefecture, which is working on sake brewing with the goal of "making authentic shochu a true national drink and even a world-renowned drink," to carry out a project to promote the appeal of Japan. The second collaboration, a cocktail based on shochu, will be on sale from Wednesday, October 16, 2024.

The concept of this collaboration is "Learning from the past to learn the new." While cherishing the past (tradition), the cocktails that were born by incorporating new essences have been named "Nostalgia" and "New Breeze," "hospitality cocktails" from Kyoto. "Nostalgia" is served with "Picked Grapes," a Japanese confectionery from Kyoto confectionery shop Kogetsu, which celebrated its 79th year in business this year, so that you can enjoy the harmony of sweetness and aroma that is characteristic of Ukaze. "New Breeze" is a cocktail that combines Ukaze with "Kyoto Whisky Nishijin Kuroobi" and finishes with vanilla syrup, allowing you to find a new taste for yourself.

The cocktail base for this time is "Ukaze." It is a genuine barley shochu made by blending four types of unblended liquor in 1% increments. Hamada Shuzo is a long-established shochu manufacturer with over 155 years of history, but they are also trying to breathe new life into Japanese spirits. This cocktail allows you to experience a new way of enjoying shochu by pairing it with Japanese sweets. The concept of our hotel is "Discover a new you." We hope that you will gain various "realizations" and "discoveries" through the Japanese sweet cocktails and spend a relaxing time at the end of the day.

In October, the Jidai Matsuri, one of Kyoto's three major festivals, is held. The inspiration for this cocktail came from the sight of horses marching majestically through Kyoto in the Jidai Matsuri procession, and the cocktail Cowboy, named after the cowherds who rode horses and tended cattle during the Western frontier. Cowboy is a mellow cocktail made by adding milk to bourbon whiskey. The base bourbon whiskey is enhanced with Ukaze, a Japanese barley shochu, to give it a Japanese feel. The cool, creamy texture brings out the flavor of shochu. Please enjoy in Kiyomizu ware, which has been popular since the early Edo period.
Additionally, we have added some "Picked Grape" manju from Kyoto confectionery shop Kogetsu as a sweet treat befitting a Japanese sweet cocktail.

<New Breeze>
We named it "Shinpu" (New Breeze) with the desire to create a new cocktail movement with a new way of making and drinking. By adding "Kyoto Whisky Nishijin-ori Kuroobi" to the base shochu "Ukaze", we have created a collaboration between shochu and Japanese whiskey, and the lime peel creates the feeling of a new wind blowing in. In addition, to enjoy the change in taste, the experience style of "leaving the final touches up to the drinker" by adding the desired amount of vanilla syrup with a dropper is also a novel approach. You can enjoy a new sweet cocktail based on Japanese culture.

[Authentic barley shochu "Ukaze"]
With the desire to bring a new wind of barley shochu to Kagoshima, the kingdom of shochu, the brewery has named the drink "Ukaze" in the Kagoshima dialect and will be released on the occasion of the 155th anniversary of the company's founding in 2023. Using advanced blending techniques to blend four unique raw liquors in 1% increments, the brewery has achieved a refreshing taste with a sweet aroma reminiscent of biscuits and bread and the natural flavor of barley, and the label expresses the harmony of the four raw liquors (barley-like, mild richness, rich aroma, and freshness). The brewery won a gold medal at this year's International Wine & Spirits Competition (IWSC) and is highly regarded overseas as well.

A baked bun that lets you enjoy the fruity texture of freshly picked grapes. The grape paste is made with a 5:5 ratio of bean paste to pulp, and the raisins soaked in red wine-flavored syrup bring out a rich flavor, allowing you to enjoy the crunchy texture and fruity taste.

The creamy taste of "Kaiko" and the flavor of "Ukaze" that spreads in your mouth, combined with the juicy grape paste of "Tsumika Grape" and the mellowness of the dough made with condensed milk, made it feel like a complete dessert. I hope that many people will experience the new possibilities of "Japanese sweets" and "shochu" through Kaiko.
