About "Kyo-no-Onsho
Wacoal's "Kyo no Onsho" project was launched in April 2018 as a way to pass on traditional machiya houses to the next generation and preserve them for future generations, in response to concerns about the current situation where machiya houses, which symbolize the historical streetscape of Kyoto City, are being demolished one after another due to aging and the lack of people to take them over. This initiative aims to ensure that Kyomachiya built before 1950 using traditional construction methods can be passed on to the next generation of children and grandchildren.
Currently, we have seven buildings in the project: Kamaza Nijo, Gokomachi Isikawa, Fuyacho Nijo, Nishijin Villa, Goshonishi, Marutamachi, and Takeyacho.
