Making upcycled bags using recycled guest room curtains

As part of Initiatives for the SDGs we have created upcycled bags using reused outer and inner lining fabrics from the drapes in the guest rooms of The Royal Park Hotel Kyoto Sanjo.
This was the second time that Fujie Textile produced upcycled bags, and the aspirations of both Mitsubishi Estate Hotels & Resorts and Fujie Textile to make the initiative more socially meaningful than just upcycling came together, leading to the production of the bags through sewing at an employment support facility.

As part of the guest room renovation carried out to continue providing our guests with a more comfortable and high-quality space, we made effective use of the guest room curtains that have welcomed so many guests.
In addition to reducing waste, the curtains' durability and luxurious texture, which are unique to their extremely strong and unique fabric, add value.
In order to make this an initiative with greater social significance, we decided to have the items sewn at an employment support facility.
Once the curtains have completed their intended use, they are thoroughly cleaned and then sewn using both the outer and inner linings.
There is enough room to fit a 13-inch PC, and it has a gusset so you can also fit peripherals and a small water bottle in it.

This tote bag, which has been upcycled from hotel furnishings into an easy-to-use item, is intended to spark an interest in environmental issues and employment support in those who pick it up, bringing Royal Park Hotels' sustainable activities closer to home. We will continue to work together with our guests to raise awareness towards promoting and achieving the SDGs.
This initiative contributes to SDGs Goal No. 12 "Responsible Consumption and Production"
That is our goal.
