employee interview

What made you decide toenter the hotel industry?

When I was a high school student, I worked part-time at a pizza shop. I was only talking to customers over the phone, but I was happy that the customers were happy, and before I knew it, I was working part-time in various customer service industries.

When I was in college, I also experienced a part-time job at a hotel, and my senior at that time told me about the advantages of Royal Park Hotels, so I took the recruitment exam. To be honest, I started by applying for a job "somehow", and although my job hunting was already over, I learned that a new hotel was opening in my hometown Osaka as I continued to research companies. In addition, it was a deciding factor for me that it was a group hotel of the hotel that was the stage of a famous novel and its movie.

Even after receiving the job offer, I didn't have any worries about the hotel that hadn't opened yet, and I was just excited.

After joining the company, did youfeel anything when you actually worked?

I was assigned to a new hotel that had just opened, but there were few customers due to the corona crisis, and I felt frustrated. Although there are few, I felt the difficulty of serving each and every customer who visits the hotel with a variety of customer bases and needs.

In the midst of this, I learned from a conversation with one of the customers I dealt with that he liked hotels and was looking forward to coming to the new hotel. It was a casual conversation, but I was very impressed when he and his wife came to see me again later this time, asking, "Are you here, Mr. Hashimoto?" He is now one of our most important repeat customers.

After working at the front desk, your currentjob is "management," which is different from "on-site."

From the beginning of the transfer, I still sometimes think, "Will I be able to do this?" The perspective is different from the so-called "on-site" work such as the front desk, and since I am in charge of all the hotels in the area, I have a lot to learn and study every day.

My main responsibilities include accounting work such as confirmation of sales and invoices for each hotel, as well as preparations for event management at CANVAS brand hotels.
In addition, the management section is also responsible for personnel affairs such as hiring part-time workers, and other tasks such as hotel and Facility management.

Areyour past experiences still relevant to you today?

I don't know if it's still useful in my current management department work, but as someone who works at a hotel, I try not to forget the "customer's perspective."

The management section needs to look at things from a different perspective than the site, so there are times when there is a difference of opinion with the staff at the site, even if it is just an operation or an event. At times like that, I think it's the result of trying to make something good for each other, so I think we shouldn't forget what the customer thinks in the end.

I would like to listen to the opinions of both the field and management, and become like a bridge that connects them.

Mr. Hashimoto, what kind of service is “good enough”?

It's simple, but it's about doing work that meets the needs of each individual.

I think that valuing the attitude of listening to the person's thoughts, which has not changed since the time of the front desk, is "good carelessness". As I mentioned earlier, I am always aware that there are customers on the extension of my current management work.

The power that I am able to demonstrate now

Ability to learn

I'm still inexperienced as a manager, so I'm really learning every day. From my bosses and seniors around me, there are people who I respect not only the content of the management section work, but also the attitude and way of speaking as a member of society, so I am learning everything.

The power I want to acquire from now on

Thinking through

There are still many things I don't understand, and I have to ask and remember them each time, so I can't work with confidence on my own. I would like to deepen what I have learned so far, and take the initiative to take action and carry it out so that I can change "I want to do it, I want to do it" to "I did it".

In the near future, I hope that not only customers but also many people including hotel staff will be happy with the events I have planned.
